Pop and R&B star Normani recently reflected on a major milestone in her solo career, taking to Instagram on Friday to mark the fifth anniversary of her track "Wild Side." The singer reposted a throwback image originally shared on July 16, 2021, which featured her in a close embrace with Cardi B during the song's initial promotional campaign. The photo revived the striking, skin-baring aesthetic that gained significant attention when the music video was first released.
"Wild Side," which features choreography by Sean Bankhead, notably incorporates an interpolation of Aaliyah's 1996 R&B hit "One in a Million." The track achieved commercial success, peaking at number 14 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and reaching number 4 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. It earned the Soul Train Music Award for Best Dance Performance and garnered multiple MTV Video Music Award nominations. Cardi B, who was approximately five and a half to six months pregnant with her son Wave at the time of the video shoot, expressed her support for the collaboration on X on July 27, 2021, stating, "I love and support Normani and always want her to win." The two artists previously worked together in 2020, with Normani making a cameo in the viral "WAP" music video.
Normani is currently engaged to Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf. The couple announced their engagement in March 2025 during a press conference following Metcalf's trade to the Steelers, where he publicly invited Normani to show her ring to the audience. Meanwhile, Cardi B's personal life has also been in the spotlight; she began a relationship with NFL wide receiver Stefon Diggs in 2025. The pair went public in May 2025 and welcomed a son in November. Despite rumors of a rift around the time of Super Bowl LX, the two were later seen together, and Cardi B made headlines in July by defending Diggs against a sexual assault lawsuit during an X Spaces session.
