A large-scale collision involving more than 30 vehicles occurred on the London-bound carriageway of the M20 in Kent on Saturday evening. The incident, which took place shortly after 18:40 GMT, happened between junctions eight at Maidstone and nine at Ashford during conditions of thick fog.

Emergency services responded to the scene, including three fire engines, a technical rescue unit, and an air ambulance crew. Paramedics provided assistance to 11 people at the site. Kent Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that two of these individuals sustained serious injuries and required hospital treatment. Kent Police stated that one of the seriously injured victims was transported to a local hospital, while the second was taken to a hospital in London. Other motorists involved in the crash suffered injuries that are not believed to be serious.

An air ambulance crew, three fire engines and a "technical rescue unit" were sent to the scene, where National Highways said "thick fog" had been confirmed on the highways. The motorway was closed in both directions for a period following the crash, though authorities confirmed the road had reopened early on Sunday. Kent Police have issued an appeal for anyone with information or dashcam footage of the incident to come forward.
