Roma Consider Ajax Winger Godts as Summerville Alternative

Roma are actively exploring alternatives for their attacking lineup, with Ajax winger Mika Godts emerging as a key target. The club is considering the 21-year-old Belgian as a fallback option should their current pursuit of West Ham forward Crysencio Summerville fail to progress.

The move for Summerville has hit a significant roadblock regarding personal terms. While an agreement appeared to be within reach earlier this week, the situation has shifted as the Dutch forward is reportedly seeking a salary between €6 million and €7 million per season. These financial demands have caused Roma to pause negotiations and reconsider their options.

Sporting director Tony D’Amico is now evaluating Godts as a viable alternative. Although the transfer fee for the Belgian winger would be comparable to that of Summerville, Godts offers a more sustainable wage structure for the club. At 21, he is also four years younger than Summerville, providing significant potential for future development.

Godts demonstrated strong form during his breakout campaign last season, recording 17 goals and 15 assists across 44 appearances for Ajax. His performance has attracted interest from several top European clubs, including Bayern Munich and Chelsea. With Gian Piero Gasperini looking to secure a marquee wide player ahead of the upcoming Champions League campaign, D’Amico is under pressure to resolve the club's attacking recruitment quickly.

The brake, however, is now the player’s side: the Dutchman’s salary demands range from a minimum of €6 million to as much as €7 million per season, figures that have given Roma pause, and a shift in tone from earlier in the week, when agreement on personal terms had appeared within reach.
