Gallagher argued that the Three Lions will struggle to secure a World Cup title until they move away from rigid, overly technical systems and allow players more freedom on the pitch.
Reflecting on the match, Gallagher stated, "England won’t win a WC until we get street wise and that goes for the managers. It’s all got too technical let the kids run wild." The songwriter suggested that the current managerial approach prioritized defensive caution over attacking flair.
England had initially taken the lead in the 55th minute through a goal by Anthony Gordon. However, the team failed to maintain their advantage, conceding two late goals to Enzo Fernandez and Lautaro Martinez in the 85th and 90+2nd minutes, respectively. Critics, including Gallagher, pointed to manager Thomas Tuchel's tactical shifts after the hour mark as a turning point. Instead of utilizing attacking substitutes like Marcus Rashford or Bukayo Saka to retain possession and push Argentina back, the side adopted an all-defensive posture that invited pressure.
Captain Harry Kane expressed the team's collective disappointment following the final whistle. Addressing the loss, Kane said, "We're gutted for the boys, gutted for everyone, the team, the staff, the fans. When we went 1-0 up, we seemed to try and hold on, which at this level is not enough. We've worked so hard to be here. So to fall short is just gutting."
