Budapest stands out as one of Central Europe's most picturesque cities, defined by the River Danube and a rich blend of historic castles, thermal baths, and an exceptional culinary scene. During a recent visit, the city’s deep cultural heritage was on full display through its iconic architecture and landmarks.
The tour began in the Pest district, focusing on City Park, the site of the 1896 Millennium exhibition. Key stops included the landmark Vajdahunyad Castle, the expansive Heroes’ Square, and the Hungarian State Opera House, with the district walk concluding at the significant religious site of St. Stephen's Basilica. Crossing over to the historical Buda side, the itinerary featured the towers of Fisherman's Bastion, the historic Castle District, Buda Castle, and Matthias Church. This urban exploration finished with a scenic boat trip along the Danube River.
Accommodation was centered at the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest, a historic property where wellness treatments offered a direct insight into Hungary’s renowned spa culture. Beyond the city limits, the journey extended to the village of Kóspallag. There, a guided foraging experience provided a taste of wild countryside ingredients, complemented by a visit to an organic garden and a private basket-weaving workshop.
The trip reached its conclusion at the prestigious Stand Restaurant. Holding two Michelin stars, the venue hosted a cooking masterclass and a tasting experience, rounding out an intensive and varied exploration of the Hungarian capital.
After exploring Budapest, Lilly heads to Kóspallag village to see what lies beyond the city. She joins a guide for a foraging experience, tasting food that grows naturally in the countryside. Whilst there, she visits an organic garden and a private basket-weaving workshop.
