Singapore Airlines has announced a significant $1.4 billion investment aimed at upgrading its long-haul and ultra-long-range aircraft cabins. The initiative, designed to maintain the carrier's competitive edge against rivals such as Qatar Airways and Cathay Pacific, will see the rollout of new interior products starting in the second half of 2027. The upgrades are scheduled for the airline's retrofitted Airbus A350-900 fleet as well as its incoming Boeing 777-9 aircraft.
To ensure the designs align with actual passenger needs, the airline incorporated feedback from more than 5,000 frequent travelers, customers, staff, and industry experts through surveys, focus groups, and concept testing. Lee Lik Hsin, Chief Commercial Officer at Singapore Airlines, stated that while each cabin has been designed individually, the overarching ambition is to provide a more flexible, comfortable, and rewarding experience for customers. He noted that the new products will offer passengers greater control over their in-flight environment, whether they are dining, working, relaxing, or resting.
First-class passengers traveling in center seats will benefit from a design that allows the space to be converted into a two-seater sofa during the day, or the largest double bed in commercial aviation at night, measuring 203 centimeters long and 152 centimeters wide. These cabins will also feature dedicated storage, including a personal wardrobe, a vanity drawer, and a compartment for cabin baggage under the ottoman, along with a table suitable for dining or working.
Business class passengers will receive seats featuring sliding doors for increased privacy and a 127-centimeter seat pitch. These seats can be converted into a full-flat bed measuring 200 centimeters in length and up to 61 centimeters in width. In economy class, travelers will have a seat pitch ranging from 78 to 81 centimeters, complemented by a four-way adjustable headrest.
Across all classes, the airline is introducing enhanced connectivity, including USB-C charging ports, with additional options like wireless charging, universal AC power, or USB-A ports depending on the specific aircraft and class. Passengers will also have the ability to pair their own headphones with the KrisWorld in-flight entertainment system via Bluetooth. Furthermore, the airline is refreshing its culinary offerings with more than 100 new desserts, main courses, and appetizers.
Lastly, those flying in economy class have a seat pitch of between 78 centimetres and 81 centimetres and a four-way adjustable headrest.
