Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi on Tuesday in New York City. The closed-door session took place on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to a statement from Türkiye's Communications Directorate, the two leaders engaged in discussions regarding bilateral relations as well as various regional and global issues. During the meeting, President Erdogan emphasized the potential for both nations to increase their bilateral trade volume in a balanced manner within a short timeframe. He further highlighted the importance of identifying and exploring new opportunities for cooperation in the energy, infrastructure, and defense industry sectors.
Addressing the international landscape, the Communications Directorate noted that President Erdogan underscored Türkiye's ongoing efforts to foster peace both regionally and globally. The Turkish president specifically highlighted the significance of the reconstruction efforts required in war-torn regions, including Syria, Gaza, and Ukraine. Additionally, President Erdogan extended an invitation to Prime Minister Takaichi to attend the COP31 Leaders' Summit, which is scheduled to be held in Türkiye this November.
The Turkish delegation accompanying the president included Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Minister of Industry and Technology Mehmet Fatih Kacir, and the Presidency's Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran. They were joined by Secretary of Turkish Defence Industries Haluk Gorgun and Chief Advisor to the President on Foreign Policy and Security Akif Cagatay Kilic.
