Bryan Seaver, Parton's nephew who also served as her security chief, confirmed the death in a video message posted to the singer's official channels on Tuesday. Describing the announcement as a task Parton had entrusted to him years ago, Seaver noted that he had not fully processed it as a future reality at the time. He stated that delivering the news was an "honour that is mixed with absolute pride and great sadness."
Known for an enduring career that produced global hits such as "Jolene" and "I Will Always Love You," Parton left specific instructions regarding her passing. According to Seaver, she requested that "I Will Always Love You" be used as her final farewell.
In response to the news, US President Donald Trump shared a tribute on his Truth Social account, calling her death a "true loss for millions of people." Trump remarked, "There has never been anyone like her, and never will." To honor her legacy, the President announced that American flags would be lowered across the United States for a one-week period, effective at 6:00 PM on Tuesday.
