His spectacular innings of 132 off 51 balls at the Oakland Coliseum marked a breakthrough for American cricket, following a series of close calls by other players such as Corey Anderson, Monank Patel, and Tajinder Singh. Gous himself had narrowly missed the milestone just one week prior when he was dismissed for 96 against the same opponent.
