New data from the European statistical office, Eurostat, confirms that Poland has solidified its position as the sixth-largest economy within the European Union. In 2025, the country's GDP at current prices reached €922.9 billion, representing 4.9 percent of the total EU economy. This expansion places Poland ahead of several nations, including Belgium, Sweden, Ireland, and Austria.

The European economic hierarchy remains led by Germany, which holds the top spot with a GDP of €4.47 trillion. France follows with €2.99 trillion, Italy with €2.26 trillion, Spain with €1.69 trillion, and the Netherlands with €1.17 trillion. Poland’s performance establishes it as the dominant economic force in Central and Eastern Europe, significantly outpacing its regional neighbors. For comparison, Romania recorded a GDP of €380.1 billion in 2025, while the Czech Republic stood at €347.3 billion and Hungary at €218.8 billion.

Poland's climb in the rankings is attributed to a combination of long-term industrial development, robust export growth, and rising levels of domestic consumption and investment. During 2025, Poland achieved real GDP growth of 3.6 percent, notably higher than the 1.5 percent average growth recorded across the European Union.

Despite this significant growth in total economic output, Eurostat data highlights that the size of an economy does not directly correlate with individual wealth. When measured by GDP per capita, Poland remains below the EU average, with figures indicating it reached less than 85 percent of the average in 2025.
