Celebrity blogger Perez Hilton, 48, remains hospitalized under Florida's Baker Act in serious but stable condition, according to a health update released by his family on August 8. The statement clarified that Hilton, whose birth name is Mario Lavandeira Jr., experienced significant blood loss and sustained additional injuries that will necessitate surgery in the coming days. His family described the treatment and recovery process as a long-term endeavor.
The Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office reported that they were called to respond on August 4 after receiving multiple reports regarding a man livestreaming acts of self-harm on social media. Authorities successfully recovered Hilton and transported him to a local medical facility for treatment. Online, an unverified video appeared to show Hilton in distress while covered in what looked like blood.
Regarding his current status, the family noted that communication remains extremely limited, restricted solely to medical providers, immediate family, and those directly involved in his care. Hilton has not issued any public statements or engaged with the media. On Friday, he was able to spend time with his mother and sister, providing a small measure of hope given his previous ability to communicate while receiving care.
His family urged the public to rely only on information published directly on PerezHilton.com, warning that false and inaccurate reports regarding the incident are currently circulating. They have requested privacy as they navigate this difficult time and care for those impacted, including Hilton’s three children, Mario Armando Lavandeira III, 13, Mia Alma, 11, and Mayte Amor, 8.
This hospitalization follows a separate serious medical episode earlier this year. In March, Hilton spent several weeks in the hospital after suffering from an ulcer, perforation, and sepsis, which required him to undergo laparoscopic surgery. Following that recovery, he had returned to his hometown of Miami with his family.
