The mother of celebrity blogger Perez Hilton is seeking temporary custody of his three children following his recent hospitalization during a mental health crisis at his south Florida home. Legal documents filed in Miami-Dade county, which have been reviewed by various news organizations, confirm the petition was submitted by the 48-year-old blogger's mother.
Natalie F Guerra-Valdes, an attorney representing the blogger's mother, stated that the primary objective for the family is to ensure the safety and protection of the children. She added that the family aims to provide the children with a sense of normalcy as they begin their healing process following the events of last week.
Hilton, whose legal name is Mario Lavandeira, gained prominence in the mid-2000s as a pioneer of the celebrity gossip industry, frequently engaging in high-profile conflicts with pop culture figures such as Britney Spears, Paris Hilton, and Lindsay Lohan. On August 4, a live stream on TikTok, which has since been removed, appeared to show Hilton naked, covered in blood, and holding an object resembling a knife.
The Miami-Dade sheriff’s office reported that deputies were dispatched to the home after receiving multiple calls regarding an individual livestreaming acts of self-harm. Authorities confirmed that Hilton was subjected to a “Baker-Act,” a Florida law allowing for an involuntary psychiatric evaluation for up to 72 hours. His family confirmed on Saturday that he remains hospitalized in serious condition and has been stabilized, though he will require surgery for his injuries.
The family revealed that Hilton’s three children, along with his sister and niece, were present in the home shortly before the live stream began. According to a statement on the Perez Hilton website, the family members fled the scene as soon as it became evident he was experiencing a severe crisis to prevent the children from witnessing further trauma. The blogger is a single parent to three children, all under the age of 14, who were born via surrogacy. The family has requested that the public respect their privacy and avoid the area surrounding their home as they focus on Hilton’s recovery and the children's well-being.
