Emergency dispatch audio from Miami-Dade County has provided insight into the response to a mental health crisis involving celebrity blogger Perez Hilton. The situation unfolded on the night of Aug. 4 at the podcaster’s residence in the Westchester neighborhood, located approximately 10 miles west of downtown Miami. Emergency services were alerted to the scene after the 48-year-old was observed appearing to harm himself during a TikTok livestream.
Initial 911 calls were placed shortly before 7 p.m. Dispatchers categorized the incident as a “possible suicide” and alerted responders that the individual might be armed and required medical attention for injuries. Emergency staff initially arrived with “basic life support” equipment, which is typically considered a tier below the “advanced life support” utilized for emergencies such as cardiac events. During the operation, sheriff’s deputies instructed emergency responders to wait in the vicinity, prioritizing de-escalation tactics that focused on establishing time, distance, and communication, according to a statement released by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
The emergency call lasted for nearly four hours. Records indicate that personnel were dispatched to the home again around 10:40 p.m. By approximately 11 p.m., responders coordinated with law enforcement to enter the residence and provide care to Hilton before transporting him to a hospital. On Aug. 5, Hilton’s family issued a statement confirming that he is receiving medical treatment. The family expressed their gratitude for the public support and noted that their primary focus remains on his well-being.
