Tributes continue to pour in for the late Franco Baresi, who has passed away at the age of 66. As the club mourns the loss of its iconic former captain, there is growing pressure from supporters on social media for AC Milan to rename a portion of the San Siro or the club’s training facilities in his honor.
Reports indicate that AC Milan management is currently evaluating these proposals. While a final decision has not yet been reached, the club has not ruled out the possibility of a permanent tribute. Should the club decide to proceed, officials believe the bureaucratic process would be straightforward, and ground-sharing partner Inter is not expected to oppose such a move. Among the suggestions being discussed is the potential to rename the Vismara facility, where the Rossoneri youth teams train and play, after Baresi—a location that holds special significance as it is where he spent his own youth career.
Beyond these potential tributes, the club is actively planning a fitting send-off for the legend. A funeral is scheduled for Tuesday and is expected to be attended by a wide range of representatives, including owner Gerry Cardinale, President Paolo Scaroni, CEO Massimo Calvelli, and staff from Casa Milan. Numerous former teammates of Baresi are also slated to attend.
Regarding the current squad, players Christian Pulisic and Santiago Gimenez are confirmed to be in attendance. The remainder of the first-team squad will be unable to join the memorial as they are currently in Australia for a pre-season tour. It remains unconfirmed whether Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be present at the service.
