Professional golfer Trey Mullinax has been issued a six-month suspension by the PGA Tour for violating the organization's anti-doping policy. The 34-year-old athlete tested positive for a performance-enhancing substance that is prohibited by the World Anti-Doping Agency. According to an official statement released by the PGA Tour on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, Mullinax is eligible to return to competition on January 16, 2027. The Tour noted that the golfer has cooperated fully throughout the disciplinary process and has accepted the terms of his suspension.
Mullinax provided a statement regarding the violation, explaining that he had used a medication to treat a condition he was originally diagnosed with during his college years. He admitted that he failed to seek the necessary approval for the treatment under the PGA Tour’s Anti-Doping Policy. In his statement, Mullinax accepted full responsibility for his actions, emphasizing that his lack of knowledge regarding the rules was not a valid excuse. He explicitly stated that he has never taken any substance with the intent to gain a competitive advantage in the sport.
Expressing his deep respect for the game of golf and its values, Mullinax noted that he does not want this singular mistake to define his career or his relationship with those who have supported him. He thanked his supporters and stated his intention to use this experience as a learning opportunity before returning to competition in 2027. Mullinax, who secured a career PGA Tour victory at the 2022 Barbasol Championship, missed the cut in both events he participated in this season. Since the PGA Tour implemented its anti-doping policy in 2008, at least five golfers have been suspended under the program.
