Leeds United have officially confirmed the signing of defender Tarik Muharemovic from Sassuolo. Following the announcement on Friday, Juventus star Kenan Yildiz was quick to congratulate his former teammate on social media.
Yildiz and Muharemovic previously played together in the Juventus NextGen squad, where Muharemovic made 40 appearances, before the Bosnia and Herzegovina international joined Sassuolo in 2014. Yildiz, who has since developed into one of Juventus' most prominent talents, reacted to the transfer on Instagram by calling the defender "My brother."
Muharemovic, who represented Bosnia and Herzegovina at the World Cup after helping to eliminate Italy in the qualifying play-offs, posted an emotional message to Sassuolo fans as he prepared for his move to England. "There are moments when finding the words is really difficult. Today is one of those," the defender wrote.
Reflecting on his time in Italy, Muharemovic expressed deep appreciation for how the club supported him during a challenging period. "After two fantastic years, full of emotions, it’s time to say goodbye to Sassuolo. When I arrived, I was going through one of the most difficult moments of my career. This club trusted me when I needed it the most, helped me rediscover myself and helped me have fun again on the pitch. For this reason, I’ll always be grateful," he shared.
The defender extended his gratitude to key figures at the club, saying, "Thanks to Mister Fabio Grosso for believing in me since the first day and for the opportunity he gave me. Thanks to director Giovanni Carnevali, sporting director Francesco Palmieri, and the Squinzi family for the trust and support. Thanks to my teammates, the whole staff and all the people working for this club every day."
He also reserved praise for the supporters: "A special thanks to the fans, too. You’ve always made me feel at home from day one, and you always supported me, especially in difficult times. I’ll forever bring your affection with me. I leave Sassuolo with a heart full of gratitude and great memories. I wish all of you the best for the future. Thanks from the bottom of my heart, forever Forza Sassuolo."
Several of his former teammates, including Sassuolo star Domenico Berardi, replied to the post with heart emojis. Muharemovic's departure comes amidst a summer of major changes for Sassuolo. Director Giovanni Carnevali has moved to Juventus, and coach Fabio Grosso has been hired by Fiorentina. To fill the vacancy, former Liverpool, Roma, and Fiorentina midfielder Alberto Aquilani has been appointed as Sassuolo’s new head coach for the 2026-27 season.
