West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen has officially committed his future to the club following their relegation to the Championship last season. The 29-year-old England forward, who faced significant speculation regarding a potential exit from the London Stadium, confirmed his decision after spending the close-season reflecting on his career path.
Reflecting on his choice, Bowen emphasized that the decision was straightforward. He explained that his primary motivation is to assist the club in returning to the Premier League, where he believes they belong. During the summer, he contemplated his long-term happiness and concluded that staying was the right move. As part of his commitment, Bowen recently traveled to Prague to meet with West Ham's majority shareholder, Daniel Kretinsky, to discuss the organization's ambitions for an immediate promotion back to the top tier.
Bowen expressed that the direction proposed by the club's leadership was highly compelling. He also noted that manager Nuno Espirito Santo will remain in charge following the conclusion of the club's 14-year tenure in the Premier League. For Bowen, the club holds deep personal significance, having spent six and a half years there. He highlighted his transition from a young player arriving from the Championship to becoming the club captain as a huge honor.
Since joining from Hull in 2020, Bowen has made 280 appearances for West Ham, scoring 85 goals. He also praised the supporters, noting that the presence of 50,000 season ticket holders in the Championship serves as a testament to the loyalty and love the fanbase maintains for the club.
"There's a lot of thinking time over the summer and a lot of things that go on in your head," he said.
"It didn't take a lot because this club means a lot to me. I've been here six and a half years and transitioned a boy really from the Championship to the captain of the club, which is a huge honour," he said.
