The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has announced the departure of national team coach Pape Thiaw and his entire coaching staff. The decision was confirmed following a meeting of the FSF executive committee, with the federation stating that it has initiated formal proceedings to relieve the staff of their duties. FSF president Abdoulaye Fall is scheduled to host a press conference on Monday to address the reasoning behind this leadership change and to discuss the future of the national program.
Thiaw, 45, is a former Senegal international who assumed the role of national team boss in 2024. His tenure included a notable victory at the Africa Cup of Nations in January; however, the team was subsequently stripped of that title as a disciplinary measure after players walked off the pitch during a chaotic final match against Morocco.
The decision to terminate his contract follows a lackluster performance at the 2026 World Cup. Senegal’s campaign saw them suffer group stage defeats to France and Norway, though they managed a 5–0 victory over Iraq to secure a spot in the knockout rounds. The team's tournament concluded in the round of 32, where they were eliminated by Belgium in a 3-2 loss after extra time. The defeat was particularly difficult for the Lions of Teranga, who had maintained a 2-0 lead until the 86th minute of the match.
