Scandinavian airline SAS is set to introduce a new direct flight route connecting Copenhagen and Mumbai, marking the carrier's first direct service between Denmark and India in 17 years. The service will operate five times a week and is scheduled to commence on October 1st.
To support the new route, SAS will utilize Airbus A330 aircraft, providing 266 seats on each flight. The airline confirmed that this flight frequency will be maintained throughout the year. Paul Verhagen, the commercial director at SAS, characterized the addition as an unusual milestone for the company, noting that it would effectively open doors between Scandinavia and one of the world's most dynamic economic centers.
According to the airline industry website Check-in.dk, this launch ends a long hiatus for SAS, which has not operated a direct route between Denmark and India since 2009. The previous service, which connected Copenhagen to New Delhi, was discontinued at that time as a cost-saving measure.
Currently, Air India provides service between Copenhagen and New Delhi in northern India, while the new SAS route will serve Mumbai, located on the country's west coast. Copenhagen Airport remains the primary hub for Denmark and serves as the closest major international airport for a significant portion of southern Sweden.
