Bukayo Saka has opened up about his experience at the World Cup, admitting he would have liked a more prominent role in the tournament following his impressive hat-trick in England's 6-4 victory over France. The France 4-6 England bronze medal match allowed England to secure third place in a thrilling contest that Saka described as a "crazy game."
Reflecting on the campaign, Saka acknowledged the disappointment of missing out on the final, particularly after being left out of the squad for the semi-final defeat to Argentina. When asked if he felt he could have contributed more during the competition, the Arsenal winger noted that while he would have loved to play more, he prefers to focus on the present. "It’s too late to talk about that," he told BBC Sport. "I just try to do my talking on the pitch and it’s done now so let’s move on."
Saka emphasized that the team was determined to finish the tournament on a high note by securing the best possible position for England in approximately 60 years. Despite the lingering pain of their exit against Argentina, he believes there are significant positives to take away from their performance in the USA.
"We built and built across the tournament, we had some amazing results and in the end we fell short against Argentina," Saka said. "It hurts a lot for all of us and I’m sure it’s the same for the fans back home but we have to move on and hold our heads high."
