Following the conclusion of the three-match ODI series against England, former India captain Rohit Sharma is spending time on a family vacation. The star batter took to Instagram to share a series of photos and a short video, offering fans a look at his holiday activities.
In one of the shared images, Sharma is seen relaxing in a garden alongside his wife, Ritika Sajdeh. Another part of his social media update includes a clip featuring the 39-year-old playing with his two children, Samaira and Ahaan.
The vacation comes after a period of intense scrutiny regarding Sharma's batting form. Leading up to the series decider at Lord's, the opener faced significant pressure following scores of 11 and 26 in the first two matches. Speculation even circulated in reports, including one from the Indian Express, suggesting that the Lord's fixture could mark his final appearance in international cricket. However, Sharma addressed these rumors by scoring a resilient 138 off 110 balls, marking his 34th ODI century, although the match ultimately resulted in a loss for India.
The retirement rumors drew sharp criticism from former India cricketer Deep Dasgupta, who expressed his frustration on his YouTube channel. Dasgupta stated that he was angry to read such reports, emphasizing that a player's tenure should be determined by performance rather than speculation. He noted that he had heard no such discussions from selectors, captains, or coaches regarding a retirement.
Looking ahead, Rohit Sharma is expected to return to the field for India's upcoming three-match home ODI series against the West Indies, which is scheduled to begin in Thiruvananthapuram on September 27.
