A large-scale police operation is underway in northern Switzerland following a shooting that occurred near a techno event in Aarau. Local authorities reported on Sunday that a number of people were hit by gunfire during the incident, which took place overnight.
According to reports, the shooting occurred at the racecourse where the Aarauer Rave was being held. Police spokeswoman Vanessa Rumpold stated that several shots were fired into a large group of people. One witness described the sound of the incident as “bursts of gunfire.”
The annual techno party attracted approximately 3,500 attendees between 3:00 pm on Saturday and 2:00 am on Sunday. Local police noted that the gunfire erupted before 3:00 am on Sunday on the sidelines of the event. While police confirmed there were “multiple victims,” they have not provided further details regarding the conditions of those injured or the identity of the shooter.
