Critical issues facing the European continent are under the spotlight in a special episode of The Ring, which examines the complex challenges of migration management and the urgent need for affordable housing. The program, hosted by Méabh Mc Mahon, features a discussion between Spanish MEP Juan Fernando López Aguilar of the Socialists & Democrats and Swedish MEP Tomas Tobé of the European People's Party.

The debate on migration spans a wide range of sensitive topics, from border management and asylum procedures to the rights of individuals living in Europe without legal status. During the session, the MEPs explore how the European Union should approach these challenges, specifically addressing the application of the “safe third country” concept and analyzing the implications of Spain’s large-scale regularisation plan.

Beyond migration, the episode turns its focus to the housing crisis, a matter impacting millions of residents across Europe. With rising rental costs, restricted housing supply, and mounting pressure on urban infrastructure, the topic has ascended to the forefront of the political agenda. The episode was produced by Luis Albertos Altarejos and Amaia Echevarria, and directed and edited by Vassilis Glynos.
