Lecce director Stefano Trinchera has issued a stern warning to Lameck Banda, stating that the player will face consequences for his recent behavior after the club lost contact with him for several days. The 25-year-old Zambia international, who is under contract with the Italian club until June 2027 following a one-year extension, has been unreachable despite repeated attempts by the team to bring him in for medical testing.
The situation began earlier this month when Banda was expected to report for pre-season training. Initially, the club released a statement citing red tape issues regarding his return to Italy. Although there were subsequent reports that the winger had departed Zambia, it now appears he has stopped answering all communications from the organization.
Expressing the club's frustration, Trinchera told the Nuovo Quotidiano di Puglia that the team is deeply disappointed. He noted that the club has consistently supported Banda, even through various personal matters, making his current conduct particularly surprising. Trinchera confirmed that while the club continues to call the player for his required medical evaluations, they have received no replies, and they will monitor how long the situation persists before taking further action.
Banda has been a part of the Lecce squad since 2022, when he joined the Salentini from Maccabi Petah Tikva in a deal worth €2m. During his tenure, the winger has made 109 competitive appearances, recording nine goals and 12 assists. On the international stage, he has earned 22 senior caps for Zambia, scoring three goals.
