Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) have secured a top-two finish in the MLC 2026 standings, booking a qualifier date with the San Francisco Unicorns, after a comfortable six-wicket win over Texas Super Kings (TSK). Fifties from Colin Munro and Matthew Tromp were instrumental in LAKR's chase, while TSK's forgettable season concluded with their fifth consecutive loss and the wooden spoon.
Chasing a target of 172, LAKR's pursuit was anchored by a dominant 87-run opening stand between Andre Fletcher, who scored 26 off 30 balls, and Colin Munro, who smashed 62 off just 36 deliveries. This partnership alone provided significant context, dwarfing TSK's best partnership of 38 runs in their entire innings.
Despite a brief stutter where LAKR lost three wickets for 14 runs after the opening stand, the modest target ensured it barely registered. Matthew Tromp then continued his strong form, guiding his team home with an unbeaten 58 off 28 balls. His knock highlighted both the flat nature of the pitch and the clear disparity between the two teams, both in this match and throughout the season. LAKR ultimately reached 172 for 4 in 19.1 overs.
Earlier, after Jason Holder won the toss and elected to bowl, Texas Super Kings posted 171 for 9 in their 20 overs. Sunil Narine extended his impressive Powerplay record by dismissing Saiteja Mukkamalla in the very first over. Despite this early setback and losing three wickets, TSK still managed a brisk 66 runs in the first six overs.
However, their top-order batters failed to convert promising starts into substantial scores. Faf du Plessis (23 off 14), Rilee Rossouw (24 off 13), and Dian Forrester (24 off 11) all scored quickly but fell in the 20s, leaving TSK at 113 for 5 after 12 overs. Shubham Ranjane was the lone standout, batting with composure for an unbeaten 51 off 34 balls.
Regular wickets falling around Ranjane prevented TSK from setting a challenging total. Jason Holder was effective with the ball, cutting through the lower order to finish with figures of 3 for 33, supported by Andre Russell who took 2 for 38. This below-par score, combined with their familiar failings, marked a disappointing end to TSK's season.
For LAKR, this victory capped a remarkable turnaround. Their season had experienced a wobble midway through the league stage, but three consecutive wins, including this decisive encounter, have placed them in a strong position as they pursue their maiden MLC title.
