Multiple sources have confirmed that England international John Stones has reached a verbal agreement to join Inter Milan as a free agent. The deal follows the conclusion of his contract with Manchester City, with the defender set to sign a contract running until June 2028. The agreement reportedly includes wages of €4m per season net, with the player expected to make 40 appearances across all competitions in his debut campaign.
Stones is currently on vacation following his participation in the World Cup, where England secured a third-place finish. Due to this break, a medical examination has not yet been scheduled, and the player is not currently in a rush to finalize the process. Despite this acquisition, Inter remains active in the market for central defenders, particularly following the departures of Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian as free agents this summer.
As part of their defensive overhaul, the club is still pursuing Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero. The Argentina international, who previously played in Serie A for Genoa, Juventus, and Atalanta, is said to be eager for a return to the Italian league. Should the move materialize, Inter could potentially feature three former Premier League defenders in their squad, joining Manuel Akanji, who arrived from Manchester City last summer.
