Former NFL MVP and perennial Pro Bowler Cam Newton recently opened up about his past experiences at strip clubs during an appearance on his 4th & 1 Podcast. In a clip shared by NFL aggregator Dov Kleiman, the 2010 Heisman Trophy winner claimed that his visits were never about the women, but rather a way to compete with other men. Newton stated, "I never went to a strip club for women. I always went to strip clubs for guys. I'm a competitor. I wasn't gonna spend no money if I didn't see nobody else spending no money." He further explained his mindset, noting that if he saw someone spending money, he would engage in a "rain off" to outspend them, asserting that he could easily recover the funds.
The comments prompted a swift reaction from NFL analyst Jason Whitlock, who quoted the post on social media with a two-word response: "Unbelievably sad." Newton, who earned approximately $133.5 million over his 11-year career with the Carolina Panthers and New England Patriots, last played in the NFL during the 2021 season.
Following his playing career, Newton transitioned into broadcasting, joining ESPN in late 2024 as a regular on "First Take" alongside Stephen A. Smith. However, he was released from the network in July as part of widespread budget cuts and corporate restructuring that also affected figures such as Ryan Clark, Karl Ravech, Tom Pelissero, Bart Scott, and David Lloyd. Newton is now focusing on his "4th & 1 Podcast," while his former team, the Carolina Panthers, prepares for their third season under coach Dave Canales following a wildcard appearance in the 2025 campaign.
