A mathematics lecturer at Bar-Ilan University has been indicted on charges related to planning a series of mass-casualty terrorist attacks targeting Palestinian citizens of Israel, as well as Palestinians in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem. The professor, who is in his 60s, remains subject to a gag order regarding his identity.
According to the indictment, the suspect spent over three years developing a plan titled “Am Ya’aseh Transfer,” which translates to “the nation will carry out a transfer.” The stated objective of the scheme was to force Palestinian populations to flee or be expelled to Jordan, Lebanon, and Gaza. Prosecutors allege that the professor conducted reconnaissance, prepared detailed documentation, and actively sought to recruit participants for the operation.
The plan reportedly involved a highly organized structure of 72 Jewish operatives divided into 12 distinct cells, with coordinated attacks intended for mixed Jewish-Palestinian cities and various Palestinian communities. The scheme included explicit instructions to show no mercy, including toward women and children, with an estimated death toll of 600 to 700 people. The professor stipulated that at least half of the attackers, including himself, should possess gun licenses.
The indictment further reveals that the suspect attempted to recruit former security officials, journalists, academics, and right-wing political figures, including former Knesset member Moshe Feiglin. Additionally, he reached out to “subversive elements” within the Israeli Air Force, artillery, and armored corps, and sought to leverage social media coverage to incite panic among Palestinian citizens of Israel. In June, the professor reportedly asked his daughter to recruit individuals from the “hilltop youth,” a group of extremist illegal Israeli settlers, though she refused the request.
Bar-Ilan University has suspended the lecturer, stating it is “appalled” by the allegations and maintains a zero-tolerance policy regarding such conduct. The Central District Attorney’s Office has filed the indictment at the Lod District Court and has requested that the suspect remain in custody until the conclusion of the legal proceedings.
Palestinian Israelis currently make up approximately 21 percent of Israel’s total population of more than 10 million people.
