Inter Milan are reportedly unlikely to pursue the signing of Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero after the Premier League side set a €50m asking price for the player. The valuation was revealed by transfer expert Gianluigi Longari, who noted that the figure is slightly lower than the €53.8m Tottenham paid to acquire the Argentine from Atalanta in 2022 following an initial loan period during the 2021-22 season.
The possibility of a transfer emerged after Tottenham proposed the 28-year-old to Inter during separate negotiations regarding right-back Djed Spence. According to reports from Fabrizio Romano, this suggestion originated from Tottenham's directors rather than an inquiry from the Italian club. Given the financial demands, a deal appears difficult for Inter to complete, especially as they face competition from Barcelona for the defender’s signature.
Despite signing a new contract in August 2025, the relationship between Romero and Tottenham has reportedly deteriorated significantly in recent months. Both the club and the player are said to believe their partnership has reached its conclusion; however, with his contract running until 2029, the parties must find a formal agreement to facilitate a departure. Romero, who previously played in Serie A for Genoa, Juventus, and Atalanta, remains a well-known figure within the Italian league.
