The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that all-rounder Washington Sundar will miss the third ODI against England at Lord's due to a hamstring injury. The 26-year-old sustained the injury to his right hamstring while batting during the second ODI in Cardiff. Following the incident, which required him to receive strapping on his leg and caused him difficulty moving, Sundar was unable to take the field for England's chase. The BCCI stated that Sundar will now undergo scans and seek a specialist opinion to determine the best course of management for his recovery.
Harsh Dubey has been named as the replacement in the Indian squad. Dubey, a left-arm spin-bowling all-rounder, previously earned his India cap during the home series against Afghanistan, where he recorded impressive figures of 3 for 47 on his ODI debut in Dharamsala. His inclusion provides India with another spin-bowling all-round option as they look to finalize their team for the series decider.
The selection process for the upcoming match remains a point of focus for the management. While Axar Patel, who was named Player of the Match during the first ODI at Edgbaston, currently holds a similar role in the playing XI, the team may also consider introducing legspinner Kuldeep Yadav, who has yet to appear in the ongoing England tour.
