The West Indies have made two significant changes to their squad for the final two matches of the ongoing five-match ODI series against New Zealand. Allrounder Justin Greaves and top-order batter Brandon King have been drafted into the team to replace Roston Chase and John Campbell, both of whom have been ruled out for the remainder of the series due to injuries.
Roston Chase continues his rehabilitation following a laceration and contusion to his right index finger sustained during the second Test match against Sri Lanka in early July. Meanwhile, John Campbell is slated for medical scans to determine the severity of a left hamstring injury he suffered while batting during the third ODI of the series this past Thursday.
Justin Greaves, who was initially named in the squad, had been sidelined for the first three matches of the series while recovering from a back injury. Shimron Hetmyer, who was previously granted a No Objection Certificate to participate in Major League Cricket, remains with the team after his campaign with the Seattle Orcas concluded. Hetmyer, who scored 26 runs in the third ODI, will continue to feature in the squad for the final two games.
The team will see the departure of Khary Pierre, who is returning home after participating in the three matches held in Guyana. Pierre claimed four wickets at an average of 32.22 during his time with the squad. Additionally, allrounder Shamar Springer remains unavailable for selection after withdrawing from the series to attend to the death of his mother.
Trailing 1-2 in the series after winning the opener by seven wickets and subsequently losing two matches to New Zealand, the West Indies are preparing for the final two encounters. These games are scheduled to take place on July 19 and July 21 at the Kensington Oval in Barbados.
