The match itself was notably lopsided. While Spain registered 11 shots on target throughout the 120 minutes of play, their opponents failed to record a single shot on target. After a scoreless 90 minutes that featured a late red card for Argentina’s Enzo Fernandez, Ferran Torres eventually broke the deadlock in the 106th minute of extra time. Spain successfully defended that lead for the remainder of the match.
Prior to the final, Clark had expressed support for Argentina, noting that her interest was largely driven by a desire to see Lionel Messi secure another title. Her connection to the sport runs deep, as she played soccer during her youth. Reflecting on her own athletic career on the show Post Moves with Candace Parker and Aliyah Boston, Clark revealed she once scored 26 goals in her freshman year of high school.
Ultimately, Clark stepped away from competitive soccer after her sophomore year due to scheduling conflicts with AAU basketball and USA Basketball commitments in Iowa. She credits her time on the pitch for developing her court awareness, explaining that soccer helped her understand angles, passing lanes, and physical conditioning. She joked that her aggressive playstyle often led to yellow cards and 15-minute timeouts during her youth soccer days.
