Bournemouth have bolstered their defensive line with the acquisition of Portuguese international António Silva from Benfica. The 22-year-old arrives as the club's second new signing this week, following the recent addition of forward Alvaro Rodriguez from Elche.
Silva joins the Premier League side to fill the gap created by the departure of Marcos Senesi, who recently completed a free transfer to Tottenham. During his tenure in Lisbon, Silva made 235 senior appearances for Benfica and secured six major honours. On the international stage, the defender has earned 20 caps for Portugal, representing his country at the 2022 World Cup and Euro 2024, though he was not included in the squad for the most recent World Cup held in North America.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the move, Silva stated that he is very happy to be at the club and considers it a pleasure to play for Bournemouth in the Premier League. He added that he is eager to begin the season with his new teammates, noting that the team's mentality is always to win. Silva committed to playing his best for the fans, stating that the club provides everything necessary to perform well on the pitch.
