Aston Villa have secured the signing of forward Manzambi from German club Freiburg. The move follows a breakout performance by the player at the World Cup, where he helped Switzerland reach the quarterfinals for the first time since 1954, tallying three goals and two assists before the team’s 3-1 defeat to Argentina.
Manzambi, who joined Freiburg's youth academy in 2023 and earned a promotion to the senior squad a year later, made 58 appearances for the Bundesliga side and scored nine goals. He also played a pivotal role in the German club's journey to their first major European final, where they ultimately finished as runners-up to Aston Villa in the Europa League.
According to a statement from the club, Manzambi will wear the No.44 shirt, which is the same number he wore for Freiburg when he faced Aston Villa in Istanbul. The club is now preparing for their Premier League season opener, which is set to take place at Brighton on August 23.
