Australia's T20 captain Mitchell Marsh is slated for his first SA20 appearance after signing with the three-time champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, who have confirmed a pre-auction squad of 17/19 players. His addition bolsters a batting lineup that already features Tristan Stubbs, Quinton de Kock, Matthew Breetzke, and Jordan Hermann. In other moves, Durban's Super Giants have secured English all-rounder Sam Curran, who returns to the league to join a squad that includes Jos Buttler, Aiden Markram, Heinrich Klaasen, and Sunil Narine.
Paarl Royals have utilized a wildcard entry to bring in England Test captain Joe Root, alongside Afghanistan's Azmatullah Omarzai. Meanwhile, the Pretoria Capitals have strengthened their top order by adding Phil Salt and Matthew Short, who will join a group that includes Andre Russell, Dewald Brevis, and Sherfane Rutherford. The Joburg Super Kings have added Jason Holder to their roster while confirming the departure of long-time captain Faf du Plessis. Season 5 is scheduled to commence on January 17, with a repeat of last season's final as Sunrisers Eastern Cape faces the Pretoria Capitals at St George's Park. The tournament will conclude with the final held at Newlands on February 21.
