Federal aviation officials have launched a review into an air-traffic safety incident that occurred on August 4 involving the military helicopter carrying President Donald Trump. The investigation follows reports that Marine One departed from the White House during the afternoon, but air-traffic controllers failed to halt commercial flight operations at the nearby Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport as required by established safety protocols.
A spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration addressed the event, clarifying that the agency does not believe the incident constituted a close call. According to the spokesperson, the helicopter and a commercial jet that was taking off did not appear to get dangerously close under federal regulations, nor did their paths converge during the flight.
