Rep. Marcy Kaptur Hospitalized Following Toledo Car Accident

United States Representative Marcy Kaptur, the longest-serving congresswoman in U.S. history, has been hospitalized following a car accident on August 2. According to a statement from her spokesperson, Ben Kamens, the Toledo, Ohio Democrat was traveling to a church service when the vehicle she was a passenger in was struck.

Kamens confirmed that Kaptur is currently alert, active, and receiving medical treatment for injuries that are not considered life-threatening. While specific details regarding other individuals involved remain limited, local Toledo news reports citing the Toledo Police Department described the incident as a hit-and-run occurring at approximately 10:48 a.m. ET. Reports indicated that one other person was also hospitalized, though their identity has not been disclosed.

In an official statement, Kaptur’s office expressed appreciation for the medical professionals assisting those involved in the crash and thanked the Toledo police and other first responders for their prompt actions. Her team noted that they are awaiting further information as the Toledo Police Department continues to investigate the accident.

Kaptur has conveyed her deep gratitude to the hundreds of constituents who have reached out following the news. Her spokesperson added that the congresswoman looks forward to returning to her full schedule soon.
