The warm-up match between the touring Indian Test side and a local Sri Lankan XI has been shortened by one day. Originally planned as a four-day encounter, the fixture will now take place over three days, running from August 7 to August 9. The match is set to be held at the NCC Ground, which is located in close proximity to the SSC Stadium in Colombo.
While the specific reasons behind the schedule change remain undisclosed, multiple sources within the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Indian team management have confirmed the adjustment. All relevant stakeholders, including team officials, have been informed of the update. The fixture is expected to be broadcast live, serving as a crucial preparation opportunity for Shubman Gill's side ahead of their upcoming two-Test series, which is part of the current World Test Championship cycle.
The Indian team is scheduled to depart for Colombo on August 4. Following the practice match, the squad will travel to Galle to participate in the opening Test of the series, which begins on August 15. The second Test is slated to commence on August 23 at the SSC in Colombo.
Regarding team fitness, Sai Sudharsan is reportedly nearing a full recovery from a big toe injury. The left-hander has been undergoing rehabilitation at the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru and has recently resumed batting, raising expectations for his availability before the team's departure. Similarly, Jasprit Bumrah, who was named in the squad conditionally due to a knee issue, is also believed to be on track to regain full fitness in time for the Test series.
