Katherine Sciver-Brunt has officially been appointed as an assistant coach for the Trent Rockets ahead of the 2026 Women's Hundred. This role marks her first professional coaching position since she retired from international cricket in 2023. As part of her new responsibilities, she will work alongside her wife, England captain Nat Sciver-Brunt.
Reflecting on her return to the sport, Sciver-Brunt expressed her enthusiasm for the new chapter. She noted that the last three years since her retirement have been focused on her life as a mother, but the time felt right to step back into cricket. She emphasized that Trent Bridge remains a special place for her, and having played for the Rockets from 2021 to 2023, the opportunity to return as a coach was one she could not turn down. She stated that she looks forward to mentoring players and moving into this new era of her career.
Sciver-Brunt, who received an OBE last month for her contributions to cricket, remains England's second-highest wicket-taker across all formats with 335 wickets, including 170 in ODIs. Her career was defined by her vital contributions to England's 2009 World T20 title and the 2017 World Cup victory. At the Trent Rockets, she will serve under head coach Chris Read, while former Nottinghamshire spinner Graeme White joins the coaching staff to oversee fielding.
Her appointment arrives amid ongoing discussions regarding the limited number of high-profile women in coaching roles within The Hundred. "The time has come for me to step back in to a role within cricket," Sciver-Brunt said. "I've had a wild three years since retiring trying to figure out what life looks like for me now as a mum!" While former England teammates Anya Shrubsole and Sarah Taylor currently serve as assistant coaches for the Manchester Super Giants and Southern Brave respectively, Lisa Keightley remains the only female head coach in the competition with MI London. In other organizational updates for the Trent Rockets, former South Africa white-ball bowling coach Anton Roux has been named assistant to Peter Moores for the men's team, while Nat Sciver-Brunt continues her focus on England duties after stepping down from the Rockets' captaincy, with Ash Gardner having taken over that role.
