When asked about the possibility of signing Summerville, Gasperini appeared to rule the move out, citing a newly implemented salary ceiling at the club. The coach explained that the decision was a matter of principle, stating, "By choice, not because of the club’s means." He further noted that it would be unfair for a new arrival to immediately surpass the wages of players who helped the club reach the Champions League, suggesting that the team should target other profiles if they could not remain within these financial parameters.
The submission of a formal bid only hours later suggests a significant shift in the club's stance or the discovery of a method to align the deal with their self-imposed wage limits.
