In a significant blow to Arsenal’s summer recruitment strategy, Chelsea have reached an agreement to sign versatile attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers for £117 million. While the Gunners had identified the 23-year-old as their top transfer priority, it is Chelsea who have acted with efficiency to secure the player’s services.
Rogers, who is currently representing England at the World Cup, is expected to undergo a medical examination shortly. His future was anticipated to be resolved following the conclusion of England's tournament run. The Three Lions are scheduled to face France in the third-place play-off in Miami, Florida, on Saturday evening before returning to London.
Known for his versatility, the 23-year-old operates primarily as a No. 10 but is equally comfortable playing on both flanks, a role he fulfilled during England’s World Cup semi-final match against Argentina on Wednesday. His performance levels remained high throughout the previous campaign, where he recorded 14 goals and 12 assists across 55 appearances in all competitions. His contributions were instrumental in his club’s success, earning him UEFA’s Europa League Player of the Season award after he scored and assisted in the 3-0 final victory over Freiburg in Istanbul last May.
While Chelsea have successfully moved to acquire the England international, Arsenal have confirmed that they have reached their own agreement to sign Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis.
