While the selectors have left the final decision regarding his retirement to the veteran, who notably led India to the 2023 ODI World Cup final, it remains unclear whether Rohit will step away following the final ODI against England at Lord's on July 19. As of now, he has not provided a formal update to the BCCI, team management, or the selectors regarding his future plans.
Speculation surrounding his potential retirement intensified during the second ODI in Cardiff, where Rohit struggled to find his rhythm, scoring 26 off 47 balls. His performance in the first ODI at Edgbaston was similarly difficult, as he was dismissed for 11 off 21 deliveries following an unforced error. Despite these challenges, India's batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, stated after the Cardiff defeat that Rohit is not under undue pressure and expressed confidence that the veteran would deliver a strong performance at Lord's.
