Mohamed Salah’s lawyer, Ramy Abbas, has moved to dismiss recent media reports suggesting that the former Liverpool forward is nearing a move to Turkish club Besiktas. The speculation, initially sparked by journalist Santi Aouna, claimed that Besiktas had secured a verbal agreement to sign the Egyptian international.
According to those reports, the proposed deal involved a one-year contract with an option for an additional 12 months, carrying a salary of approximately €12 million, or £10 million, inclusive of bonuses.
However, Abbas has cast significant doubt on these claims. Taking to social media platform X, he stated, “I personally do not know where Mohamed will play next season. What does that tell you?” While the reports from Aouna found some corroboration from Turkish journalist Yagiz Sabuncouglu, Sabuncouglu noted that the two parties are still actively engaged in negotiations regarding specific terms, including contract duration and image rights.
Besiktas is currently pursuing high-profile signings as they look to challenge the dominance of defending Turkish league champions Galatasaray. For Salah, the transition comes after he announced his departure from Liverpool in March, following a breakdown in his relationship with former head coach Arne Slot, despite the player having one year remaining on his contract.
The 34-year-old experienced a challenging final campaign at Anfield, recording 12 goals and 10 assists across 41 appearances in all competitions. Beyond the interest from Turkey, Salah has also been linked with a potential move to Major League Soccer, with Sporting Kansas City reportedly considering an approach for the veteran forward.
