FIFA is set to introduce a new tradition at the 2026 World Cup by awarding customized championship rings to the winning team. This addition will complement the traditional trophy and gold medals handed out to the victors. The initiative marks the first time such an item has been presented in the history of the competition.
According to FIFA, the design of the rings will feature the World Cup trophy on one side, while the identity of the winning nation will be displayed on the other. Each ring will be part of a limited, individually numbered collection of 2026 pieces. These items will be custom-fitted and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity. While 30 rings will be presented to the winning team, the remaining pieces will be made available to fans as Official Licensed Products.
During the immediate aftermath of the final match at the New York New Jersey Stadium, the captain and head coach of the winning side will receive temporary rings. The 30 personalized rings intended for the team will be presented at a later date.
The announcement comes as Argentina and Spain prepare to face off in the final on Sunday, July 19. Argentina, three-time winners, are looking to secure their fourth title, while Spain aims to become the seventh team to win the competition multiple times. This match marks the first time the two sides have met in the World Cup since the 1966 group stage in England, where Argentina won 2-1. While Spain holds a 1-0 record in finals, having won in 2010, Argentina enters the match with a 3-3 record in title games, having won in 1978, 1986, and 2022, and finishing as runners-up in 1930, 1990, and 2014.
