Alessandro Lucci, the agent for Marco Palestra, has issued a sharp rebuttal to comments made by Inter Milan President Beppe Marotta regarding the player's recent transfer move. During a recent press conference, Marotta publicly criticized the situation, claiming that Palestra had backed out of a verbal agreement with the Serie A club. The Inter President suggested that the player's representative could have guided him differently, ultimately expressing frustration that another Italian talent opted for a league outside of Italy.
Lucci, however, has firmly rejected this narrative. In a statement provided to the news agency ANSA, the agent emphasized that the reality of the situation was far different from what was presented by Inter’s leadership. Lucci noted that Inter directors, specifically Piero Ausilio, maintained consistent and constructive dialogue regarding the potential transfer. Despite these ongoing discussions, the two clubs involved—Inter and Atalanta—remained in daily contact for over 45 days without ever reaching a definitive agreement.
The agent argued that the true cause of the failed move was the inability of the clubs to finalize terms, rather than a decision made solely by the player. Lucci called for an end to the public friction, urging all parties to move forward with calm and respect for the player. While Palestra had previously expressed interest in a move to the San Siro several months ago, the transfer ultimately did not materialize. This situation highlights a recurring trend for Inter, who have previously faced similar difficulties in securing deals for other Atalanta players, including Ademola Lookman and Ederson.
