Juventus is currently working to part ways with forward Lois Openda, who has struggled significantly since his arrival at the club. After an initial approach from Coventry City, his former side, RC Lens, has expressed a strong interest in bringing the Belgian international back to France.
The move to Juventus has been widely viewed as a financial and sporting disappointment. Last summer, the Bianconeri acquired Openda on loan from RB Leipzig for a fee of €3.25 million, which included an obligation to purchase the player at the end of the season for an additional €42.75 million, plus various add-ons. Had the deal been structured as an option rather than a mandatory obligation, Juventus likely would not have finalized the permanent transfer, given that the striker managed only two goals in 34 competitive appearances.
Reports from Footmercato suggest that a reunion with RC Lens is being considered, potentially through a loan arrangement. Openda previously enjoyed a highly successful spell at the club during the 2022-23 season, where he recorded 21 goals and four assists in 38 games, eventually earning a €40 million transfer to RB Leipzig. However, a significant obstacle remains for the current deal: for a loan to be viable, Juventus would be required to cover a substantial portion of the player's high salary.
While Juventus is looking to reduce its wage bill, the prospect of playing for RC Lens offers Openda a distinct advantage. Unlike the Bianconeri, RC Lens has secured qualification for the Champions League this season, providing the forward with an opportunity to regain his form at the top level of European competition.
