Egypt’s National Defence Council has formally pledged to provide Saudi Arabia with “all necessary and possible forms of support” to ensure the kingdom's security and stability. The decision, reached during a meeting chaired by President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi at the presidential palace in Cairo on Sunday, comes in response to a sharp escalation in missile and drone attacks carried out by the Houthi group against Saudi targets.
During the session, the council reviewed what it described as “dangerous” regional developments, specifically highlighting the increasing frequency of attacks on Saudi Arabia. In a statement released by Egypt’s State Information Service, the council expressed “full solidarity” with the kingdom. Officials emphasized the deep historical ties between the two nations, asserting that Saudi national security is intrinsically linked to the stability of Egypt and the broader Arab region.
The council’s mandate for support includes protecting Saudi resources and territorial integrity, as well as safeguarding Islamic holy sites. Beyond military and security cooperation, the Egyptian government decided to continue and intensify its political and diplomatic efforts. These initiatives will be conducted in coordination with relevant regional and international partners, aiming to reduce regional tensions and pursue peaceful resolutions to ongoing crises.
The high-level meeting was attended by a broad delegation of senior Egyptian officials. Participants included the parliament speaker, the prime minister, the defence minister, the army chief of staff, as well as the foreign and interior ministers, the intelligence chief, and senior commanders of the armed forces.
