South Yorkshire Police have charged five people with murder following the discovery of a newborn baby girl at a house in the Wincobank area of Sheffield. Officers were called to the property on Holywell Heights on Sunday morning after receiving reports expressing concern for the infant's safety. A subsequent post-mortem examination determined that the baby died as a result of stab wounds.
The individuals charged with murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, and perverting the course of justice include two men, aged 19 and 38, and two women, aged 20 and 37. Those charged are Peter Horvath, 19, of Holywell Heights; Peter Horvath, 38, of Holywell Heights; Andrea Skopova, 20, formerly of Robey Street; and Nina Horvathova, 37, of Holywell Heights. Additionally, a 15-year-old girl, who cannot be identified due to legal restrictions, has been charged with perverting the course of justice by taking steps to conceal the killing of an infant.
All five defendants have been remanded in custody and were scheduled to appear before Sheffield Magistrates' Court. In addition to these charges, two other women, aged 26 and 37, who were previously arrested on suspicion of murder, remain on police bail.
Det Ch Insp Tom Woodward described the developments as a significant step in the investigation into the tragic circumstances surrounding the baby's death. He thanked the community for their support during the intricate investigation and urged the public to refrain from online speculation while the legal process is underway. Police confirmed that officers would maintain a presence in the vicinity of Holywell Heights to continue their inquiries, while flowers and toys have been left outside the residence.
