The Yemeni army has reported a successful operation targeting Houthi gatherings and reinforcements in the south-western province of Taiz. According to a statement issued by the Taiz Military Axis via Facebook in 2022, government forces utilized shelling to strike the enemy's positions on the northern front of the city. While the military confirmed that the engagement resulted in both deaths and injuries among Houthi fighters, they did not provide specific casualty figures.

In a separate development, the Yemeni Ministry of Defence reported that Houthi mortar fire has caused significant damage to residential properties within the province. Citing local sources, the ministry-affiliated September Net outlet stated that six mortar shells were fired at villages located in the Al-Ashmalah area, west of Taiz. Although the shelling created widespread fear among local residents, particularly women and children, no casualties were reported from that specific attack.

These military developments follow reports from the government-aligned National Resistance Forces, which stated that the Houthis had recently launched fresh attacks against the city of Mokha using a combination of drones and ballistic missiles. The current surge in hostilities comes after a relative lull in the conflict, which has persisted for nearly 12 years. The war between the Yemeni government and the Houthis—who have maintained control over Sanaa and various other regions since September 2014—has seen a recent escalation in fighting across several provinces, including Al-Dhalea, Al-Jawf, Marib, and Taiz.
