Vincent Pastore, the actor widely recognized for his portrayal of Salvatore Bonpensiero on the acclaimed HBO crime series The Sopranos, has died at the age of 80. According to his manager of over 30 years, Robert Attermann, the actor was discovered dead at his home in the Bronx, New York, on Saturday, Aug. 1. Reports from Deadline indicate that a neighbor had not heard from the actor in three days, and the circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
Reflecting on their long-standing professional and personal relationship, Attermann released a statement mourning the loss of a client he described as deeply kind and generous. "Vinny was one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever known. He treated everyone with warmth and respect, never turning down a fan who wanted a photograph or an autograph. He genuinely appreciated the people who supported him and always made them feel valued," Attermann stated. He added that Pastore was deeply passionate about his craft, frequently offering guidance and encouragement to younger performers. "Losing Vinny is deeply personal. Over more than three decades, I had the honor of watching not only his remarkable career but also the incredible person he was. He leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond his memorable performances. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. May his memory be a blessing."
Pastore’s career was marked by his work in the mobster genre, most notably as a key figure in Tony Soprano’s inner circle. Beyond The Sopranos, he appeared in iconic crime films such as Goodfellas in 1990 and Carlito’s Way in 1993. His extensive filmography also includes roles in The Jerky Boys: The Movie, The Deli, Witness to the Mob, Mickey Blue Eyes, Shark Tale, Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn, Spinning Gold, and the 1996 HBO movie Gotti.
His television career spanned numerous popular shows, including Law & Order, New York Undercover, Bull, General Hospital, and Pair of Kings. He also ventured into reality television, appearing on Dancing with the Stars and Celebrity Family Feud, and served as a guest on Shark Tank. Additionally, Pastore hosted the SiriusXM radio program The Wise Guy, which launched in 2004 and highlighted prominent figures within the Italian-American community. Before finding success in entertainment, Pastore served as a sailor for three years during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his daughter, Renee.
